Preparation (24-48 Hours Before):
Step 1: Do a patch test by mixing a small amount of powder with water, applying behind your ear, and waiting 48 hours to check for any allergic reaction.
Step 2: Do a strand test by applying the dye to a small, hidden section of hair to preview the color result.
Step 3: Wash your hair 24 hours before dyeing (not immediately before). Clean, dry hair absorbs dye better.
Mixing the Dye:
Step 1: In a non-metallic bowl (glass or plastic), add the required amount of PNKT Natural Hair Dye powder.
Step 2: Gradually add warm (not hot) water while stirring continuously to create a smooth, yogurt-like consistency. Avoid lumps.
Step 3: Let the mixture rest for 10-15 minutes. This allows the natural dyes to activate and release their color.
Step 4 (Optional): For extra conditioning, add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or yogurt to the mixture.
Application:
Step 1: Wear old clothes and gloves. Apply petroleum jelly or coconut oil along your hairline, ears, and neck to prevent staining.
Step 2: Divide dry, unwashed hair into 4-6 sections using clips for easier application.
Step 3: Starting from the roots, apply the dye generously using a brush or gloved hands. Work section by section, ensuring every strand is thoroughly coated from root to tip.
Step 4: Pay extra attention to grey areas—apply a thicker layer and massage gently to ensure penetration.
Step 5: Once all hair is covered, gather it on top of your head and cover with a shower cap or plastic wrap.
Step 6: Leave on for 2-3 hours for optimal color development. For deeper black and better grey coverage, you can leave it on for up to 4 hours.
Rinsing & Aftercare:
Step 1: Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Do NOT use shampoo for the first rinse—just water.
Step 2: After rinsing out all the dye, you can apply a mild, sulfate-free conditioner if desired. Rinse again.
Step 3: Wait 24-48 hours before shampooing your hair. This allows the color to fully oxidize and set for maximum longevity.
Step 4: For the first week, use only sulfate-free, natural shampoos to preserve color vibrancy.
Pro Tips:
- Warm is Key: Use warm water for mixing—it helps release more color from the natural ingredients
- Consistency Matters: The paste should be thick enough to stay on hair but not so thick it's hard to spread
- Root Touch-Ups: For maintenance, apply only to roots and grey areas instead of full-head application
- Color Deepening: The color continues to darken over 48-72 hours after application as it oxidizes
- Stain Prevention: Natural dyes can stain skin and surfaces. Clean up spills immediately and use old towels
- Heat Activation: Sitting in sunlight or using a warm towel wrap during processing can enhance color development
- Avoid Metal: Never use metal bowls or utensils—they can react with natural dyes and alter the color
- Storage: Store unused powder in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Once mixed, use immediately—don't store the paste
- First-Time Users: If you've never used henna/indigo before, the color may appear slightly greenish initially but will oxidize to black within 48 hours
- Swimming & Chlorine: Avoid chlorinated pools for at least 2 weeks after dyeing as chlorine can fade natural dyes faster
